With the Holidays quickly approaching, it can be a very busy time. Figuring out thoughtful Christmas gifts for friends and family is not an easy task. As I start my own Christmas shopping, I got to thinking about gifts for someone Parkinson’s. Gifts that are thoughtful and beneficial and can be used every day, making day to day life a little easier. Here are my top 3 ideas…
1. LASER CANE OR WALKER
Whether you choose a cane or a walker, both are excellent in providing stability and to prevent falling. They are particularly helpful after a freezing situation and aid in initiating movement by providing a visual cue (the laser beam) which guides the first step. U-Step and LaserCane are popular brands and are available online.
2. STEADY WRITE PEN
The specially designed triangular base allows a firm grip with less tremor and shaking and aids a smoother and clearer handwriting. Amazon.com sells a number of options.
3. NOOK OR KINDLE READER
A great alternative for those who love to read but have a difficult time with holding books and turning pages due to hand tremor. It may be difficult at first to make the change from books, but these devices are so well designed; easy to use, lightweight with paper-like pages and no glare, that they are worth making the change for.
